Bessie Coleman is an inspirational figure in the world of aviation. At a time when there were no opportunities for African-American and women to take up flying lessons, she became a licensed pilot in France. Later, she worked as a show pilot in the United States and her life was cut short due to a plane crash in 1926, where she died while testing a new plane.
