The arcade game and video game console company Atari Inc. was founded by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney. During the video game recession in North America during 1983-1985, there was some structuring that took place and a separate Atari Games was created. The name ‘Atari’ comes from Japanese where it is used to describe a position where an opponent’s stones are in danger of being captured (referring to the game ‘Go’)
