A prominent member of the National Association of the Deaf (she lost her hearing when she was 18 months old) in the USA, Marlee Matlin is one of the youngest winners in the history of Academy Awards. At 21, she won the Best Actress Award for Children of a Lesser God for her portrayal of Sarah Norman.
