As of 2020, Charles Guggenheim leads the list of individuals winning the Best Documentary (Short Subject) with three wins at the Academy Awards. Malcolm Clarke, Walt Disney, Bill Guttentag, Robin Lehman and the Pakistani filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Saving Face highlighted the issue of acid attacks on women in Pakistan while the 2015 documentary A Girl in the River was about honour killings in Pakistan.
