In 1914, on March 27, the first non-direct human blood transfusion was performed in a Brussels hospital. The Belgian doctor Albert Hustin performed this using a diluted solution of blood. The history of transfusion goes back to the 17th century when Richard Lower pioneered the first transfusion from animal to human.
