Charlie McCarthy, a ventriloquist dummy partner, was created by Edgar Bergen, Theodore Mack, and Frank Marshall who first appeared in the 1938 movie The Goldwyn Follies, the first Technicolour film produced by Samuel Goldwyn. Charlie McCarthy appeared alongside Edgar Bergen in many movies and radio shows including Bergen’s last movie appearance, The Muppets (1979). The actress Candice Bergen is the daughter of Edgar Bergen and actress Frances Bergen.
