At the 1905 Wimbledon singles, May Sutton became the first overseas player (from the USA) to win the Wimbledon singles. Interestingly, it was on her first attempt. Two years later, in 1907, Norman Brookes became the first overseas player to win the men’s singles title. The legacy of Norman Brookes remains even today, the Norman Brookes trophy is presented to the men’s singles winner at the Australian Open.
