The life in 16th century Europe was getting heated up especially the differences between the Protestant and Catholic. In England, Mary I came to rule England and Ireland in 1553 and as a Catholic it was pretty clear where her priorities were – to reverse the English reformation. During her five-year reign, she persecuted many of her Protestant opponents including Thomas Cramner, England’s first Protestant Archbishop of Canterbury. The name “Bloody Mary” is how history would remember her.
