According to Susanne Bier, in the director’s commentary, the literal English translation of the Danish word ‘Hævnen’ is ‘Revenge’. The director preferred the English title ‘In a Better World’ used for the international market which emphasises the hopefulness of the movie whereas the Danish title emphasises the harshness of the film. The 2010 movie picked up the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2011 Academy Awards.
