At the 1955 Belgian Grand Prix, the mood was sombre with the deaths of Alberto Ascari and Bill Vukovich. Ascari’s death prompted Lancia to withdrew from Grand Prix racing as they were struggling financially and it didn’t make sense to continue without their star driver. The assets of the team were transferred to Scuderia Ferrari for the remainder of the season. Interestingly, Eugenio Castellotti took the pole at the 1955 Belgian Grand Prix, however, he took part as a private entrant.
