The Leatherstocking Tales is a series of novels written by James Fenimore Cooper that is set in the 18th century Iroquois area in central New York. There are five novels in the series featuring Natty Bumppo as the protagonist who is known as Leatherstocking by the settlers and as Deerslayer by the Native Americans. The Deerslayer is the first novel in the series (as per the story and not the way it was published) followed by The Last of the Mohicans, the Pathfinders, the Pioneers, and the Prairie.
