Tom Petty started a band called the Epics which went on to become Mudcrutch, a southern country-rock band. This gave Petty the traction to further his music ambitions and led to the formation of the Heartbreakers with Tom Petty at the helm. After 11 years, Petty moved on and joined Traveling Wilburys that included George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison among others.
