FACT FOOD #1881

Known by many names, the War of the Pacific was popularly known as the Saltpeter War that took place between the years 1879 and 1884. It was fought between Chile and an alliance of Peru and Bolivia over the Chilean claims on the Bolivian coastal territory in the Atacama Desert. As a result of this war, and a peace treaty signed in 1904, Bolivia officially became a landlocked country.
