In the Karakoram Mountains, there is a strategic mountain pass which goes by the name of Khunjerab Pass located on the northern Pakistan and Xinjiang region, southwest border of China. It is one of the highest paved international border crossings in the world. The name is derived from the words of the local language known as Wakhi – Khun (blood) and ‘Jerav’ translates to a creek of spring water.
