Thomas Montgomerie was a British surveyor who during his time with the Survey of India mapped the mountains in the Karakoram range and gave them the labels K1, K2, … K6 to the six-highest mountains visible from Mount Harmukh, Kashmir. He gave the name K2, which is the second-highest mountain in the world after Mount Everest.
