THE LAST FORMULA ONE RACE IN SWITZERLAND

The 1954 Swiss Grand Prix held at Bremgarten in canton Bern was a battle between the two Argentine drivers, Juan Manuel Fangio and José Froilan Gonzalez. For the pole the two drivers were neck and neck, however, the might of Mercedes showed in the pace of Fangio as he lapped all the drivers but for Gonzalez’s Ferrari to win with a gap of 57 seconds. And, at that time, many didn’t know that it would be the last Formula One race in Switzerland as the Swiss Government banned all forms of motor racing in 1955 following the Le Mans disaster.
