In 1936, a novel by Graham Greene was published which is about Raven, a criminal. It was published in the US and the UK as This Gun for Hire and A Gun for Sale respectively. This novel fitted beautifully in the genre of film-noir and was adapted (with changes) into a movie in 1942 with the title This Gun for Hire starring Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake.
