Jidaigeki is a genre in the Japanese film industry that translates to “period dramas”. One such Jidaigeki movie is the Akira Kurosawa directed Rashomon. The movie is based on Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s 1922 short story “In a Grove” (Yabu no Naka). The movie won the 1951 honorary Oscar award for the Best Picture.
