04 July 1954, a day to remember for the German fans. West Germany won its first FIFA World Cup defeating Hungary in Bern. On the same day, about 500 kilometres away, the German car Mercedes W196 made its Formula One debut. Juan Manuel Fangio took the pole position, the race win with the Mercedes, their first victory in Formula One. On a little note, it was also the debut and the first win for Continental tyres, another German connection.
