Marseille became the first French football club to win the UEFA Champions League and it came in a year where they were involved in a match-fixing scandal in the French league, which saw them being relegated to division two and a year ban for participating in European football. Incidentally, the 1992/93 season was when the name of the competition was changed to UEFA Champions League from European Cup.
