On Nov 30th, 1966, Barbados became an independent country from the British. Sir Grantley Herbert Adams served as the first premier of Barbados. His only son Tom Adams was elected as Barbados’ second prime minister in 1976. The international airport in Barbados was named after Grantley Adams in 1976 replacing its former name, the Seawell Airport.
