At the 1954 Argentine Grand Prix, the Italian veteran Nino Farina took the pole in his Ferrari. This remains a record for being the oldest driver to secure a Formula One pole. He was 47 years and 79 days. In the race, he came second while Juan Manuel Fangio won, thereby winning his home grand prix for the first time.
