Julia Balbilla was a Roman poet who lived during the time of Hadrian, is well-known among other things to have penned the ‘four epigrams’ that have survived. The two epigrams narrate the story of Memnon, the mythical king of Ethiopia in Greek mythology. The third epigram is a dedication to the Muses while the fourth is a dedication to her parents and her noble ancestors.
