Acinonyx is the genus of a cat species that gets its name from the two Greek words meaning ‘motionless’ and ‘nail’. Acinonyx jubatus is the only extant species of the genus ‘Acinonyx’. Acinonyx jubatus is more commonly known as ‘cheetah’.
