The Decameron is one of the early works of European literature written in the mid-14th century (1348-1353). This collection of novellas was written by Giovanni Boccaccio and contains tales as told by young men and women about the days of fleeing the Florence city from the Black Death. The title of the work gets its name from the Greek words ‘ten’ and ‘day’, it means the tales were told in a period of ten days.
