The 1985 European Cup final was contested between two teams that had previously appeared in the finals and with a contrasting record. Juventus played in 1973 and 1983 and lost both the finals whereas their opponent Liverpool had a 100% record leading into the finals having won in 1977, 1978, 1981 and 1984. Juventus, courtesy of Michel Platini’s successful penalty won their first European Cup 1-0.
