Eleanor of Aquitaine was the Duchess of Aquitaine from 1137 until her death in 1204. Aquitaine was a region of present-day France to the south of the Loire River. She was queen consort of France for 15 years between 1137 and 1152 from her marriage to King Louis VII. Her marriage was annulled in 1152 and soon married the Duke of Normandy, who went on to become King Henry II of England in 1154. Katharine Hepburn won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Eleanor in the movie The Lion in Winter.
