Every empire has a time when there is an uncertainty of what the future lies when it comes to ruling. In Rome, the year 238 AD was known as the ‘Year of the Six Emperors’. The year began with the rule of Maximinus Thrax and the Romans revolted against him for his barbarities. On 22 March 238 AD, for the next 21 days, Gordian I along with his son Gordian II ruled before they were defeated and thus ended the short reign of the Gordians. Later that year, Gordian I’ grandson Gordian III assumed the throne at the age of 13 when the rule of Pupienus and Balbinus came to a halt after 99 days.
