Ewan MacColl (born James Henry Miller) was an English folk singer who caused quite a stir in the mid-’50s in England when he fell in love with a 21-year old American country singer Peggy Seeger. At that time he was married (second time) to the mother of his two children Jean Newlove. One of the songs he wrote for Peggy Seeger was ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’, which he taught Peggy Seeger via long distance telephone calls or through tapes which he sent to the US via post. MacColl could not enter the US because he was barred owing to his Communist past. The song was used by Roberta Flack in 1972 that won MacColl the Grammy Song of the Year at the 1973 Grammys. And, for those wondering what happened to him and Peggy? In 1977, they married and remained together until his death in 1989.
