Menschen im Hotel (People at a Hotel) is a 1929 novel by the Austrian writer Vicki Baum. The rights to the novel were purchased by MGM and was adapted into Broadway and the highly successful Grand Hotel. Grand Hotel was grandeur in nature especially the star-cast and the performances of Greta Garbo and John Barrymore. It won the 1931/1932 Academy Award for Outstanding Production (now Best Picture) and remains thus far the only movie to have won the Best Picture without being nominated in any other category. The movie was remade a decade later as Week-End at the Waldorf.
