The 1953 French Grand Prix has been dubbed as Formula One’s race of the century by many who witnessed it live and if you manage to grab any of the detailed race reports it becomes evident. The sixty-lap race was a showdown between Ferrari’s Mike Hawthorn and Maserati’s Fangio. With laps ticking down, the lead at the top changed at each corner of the 8.3 km Reims circuit. In the end, a skid from Fangio put him in second place and Hawthorn became the first Englishman to win a Formula One race and breaking Ascari’s long-standing record of winning races with Ferrari.
