In 1930, Sinclair Lewis became the first writer from the United States to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. His 1925 novel Arrowsmith was the basis of the 1931 movie of the same name. The movie dealt with medical education and revolves around an idealistic doctor named Martin Arrowsmith played by Ronald Colman. The movie was a critical success and was nominated for four Oscars, with no wins.
