Markens Grøde or known in English as Growth of the Soil was a monumental novel by Knut Hamsun that depicted the movement of Norwegian new realism that started in the early 20th century. The book was made into a 1921 Norwegian silent movie, a year after Hamsun won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
