For the 1931/32 Oscars ceremony, Frederic March got the maximum votes for Best Actor, one more than Wallace Beery. However, at that time, the rules stated that anyone within one or two votes to the leader would be considered as a tie. Wallace Beery won the Oscar as well for his portrayal of a boxer in the movie The Champ. The movie was remade in 1952 as The Clown (a clown instead of the boxer) and 1979’s The Clown.
