The 1953 Formula One championships was a crucial point for the future of world championships. Until then, the only race outside of Europe was the Indianapolis 500 (albeit with different regulations) – which was included in the standings. However, with the introduction of Argentine Grand Prix, it could be said that Argentina was the first venue outside of Europe to host an F1 race with F1 regulations. Alberto Ascari was on a six-race winning streak and he extended his tally to seven with the win at Buenos Aires with Ferrari. One of the local drivers, Oscar Alfredo Galvez finished fifth in the race and years later, the Argentine circuit was renamed in his honour.
