FACT FOOD #1515

In the 1974 European Cup finals, Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid both had a chance to claim their first European Cup title. Luis Aragonés put the Spanish club ahead in extra time with six minutes to go, however, in the dying minutes Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck equalised and thereby the finals were to be replayed (no penalties). The replay match was a goal feast with Munich scoring four goals to give their team the first title, and the first German club to win the European Cup title. It remains the only European Cup/Champion’s League match to have been replayed.
