For 22 years, Percy Crosby’s comic strip Skippy was highly popular and it inspired the likes of Charles Schulz for his Peanuts. A movie on Skippy was made in 1931 that had Jackie Cooper play the title character and at the age of nine, was the youngest nominee for Best Actor in a Leading Role. The director Norman Taurog held the record for being youngest director an Oscar until 2017 when Damien Chazelle won for La La Land. A sequel named ‘Sooky’ was released the same year in 1931.
