The Blue Bird is a 1908 play by the Belgian poet Maurice Maeterlinck. Based on this play, a 1940 movie of the same name starring Shirley Temple was produced by 20th Century Fox. The movie was billed as 20th Century Fox’s answer to MGM’s The Wizard of Oz, which was released in 1939. Maurice Maeterlinck won the 1911 Nobel Prize in Literature.
