Gösta Berling’s Saga happens to be the debut novel of Selma Lagerlöf. It was published in 1891 and later made into a Swedish silent movie in 1924 starring Greta Garbo. In 1909, Selma Lagerlöf was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, the first female writer to have won this prize.
