Erich Maria Remarque (Erich Paul Remark) was a German novelist who came to be known to the public for his writings on the horrors of war. One such book based on World War I was ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’. It was adapted into a Hollywood movie and won the Best Picture Oscar and an Oscar for the director Lewis Milestone. His books were publicly burned when Nazi came to power and he had to flee to Switzerland and later took up the citizenship of the United States.
