In the 1964 European Cup final (now UEFA Champions League), Real Madrid played their seventh final in eight years. This time around they faced Inter Milan in the finals. The Italian team won the finals 3-1 and thereby became the second Italian team to win the European Cup. Sandro Mazzola, who scored twice in the finals was the son of Valentino Mazzola, who died in the 1949 Superga air disaster.
