George Arliss took inspiration from the British statesman from the Victorian era, Benjamin Disraeli to further his stage career. He commissioned Louis Napoleon Parker in 1910 to write the play, Disraeli. The play was a hit and was adapted for the movie on three occasions. The last adaption in 1929 included sound and it won George Arliss the Academy Award for Best Actor.
