The 1952 Formula One season saw the regulations being tweaked to Formula Two rules than the Formula One regulations. One of the reasons being, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari were the only two teams that qualified under Formula One regulations. With Alfa Romeo out of the sport for the season, it was decided to have F2 regulations. Piero Taruffi, the Italian driver won his only World championship race here. Rudi Fischer, the Swiss driver came in second in a Ferrari (Ecurie Espadon entrant), the best finish of his world championship career.
