At the 1960-61 European Cup season, Real Madrid looking for their sixth consecutive title were knocked out by Barcelona in the first round. Benfica looked strong and they became the first team other than Real Madrid to win the European Cup. Benfica won 3-2 in the finals defeating Barcelona at the Bern’s Wankdorf stadium.
