At the 2001 Australian Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher cruised to the 45th win of his career. The race was notable for being the debut race for future world champions, Kimi Raikkonen (Sauber Petronas) and Fernando Alonso (Minardi European). Raikkonen finished sixth and thereby collected his first point on his debut. Alonso finished 12th. However, the race was marred by the death of the track marshal Graham Beveridge during the race.
