Hans Kräly was a German screenwriter who adapted the two plays Paul I by Dmitry Merezhkovsky and The Patriot by Ashley Dukes for the 1928 silent film, The Patriot. Alfred Neumann’s novel, Der Patriot served as the basis for both the plays. It was considered for the Best Picture award at the second Academy Awards and until 2012 (The Artist), there were no silent film nominations under Best Picture at the Oscars.
