The currency of Bangladesh ‘taka’ gets its name from the Old Turkic word ‘tamgha’ meaning ‘seal’ or ‘stamp’. According to Ibn Battuta, in his records from the 14th century, he mentioned the Bengal Sultanate used the term ‘taka’ instead of ‘dinar’ to refer gold and silver coins.
