For the 1951 season of Formula One, Switzerland hosted the opening race. This was possible as Monaco was not part of the calendar and frankly, it was early days for the glamorous event that it is known for. Alfa Romeo dominated the race with Fangio winning the race from the pole position. The race was notable for being the debut of Sir Stirling Moss and he drove Hersham and Walton Motors (HWM) powered by Alta engine.
