Occitan is a Romance language that is spoken in the regions of Southern France, few parts of Italy, Monaco and in the Val d’Aran regions of Spain. Under this language, there are six dialects, namely – Provençal, Auvergnat, Limousin, Gascon, Vivaro-Alpine, and Languedocien. Frédéric Mistral, the 1904 Nobel Prize winner in Literature revived the Occitan language through Félibrige, a literary association formed in the 19th century to promote the Occitan language.
