At the inaugural Oscar ceremony, one of the Outstanding Picture nominees, The Racket, was banned at that time in Chicago due to its depiction of corrupt police and government. Only one copy existed of this 1928 movie and that was in the private collection of Howard Hughes. A couple of decades later, Hughes’ owned RKO Studios produced the remake with Robert Mitchum in the lead.
